- Vitrocsa System(s): Turnable Corner
Perched on a hillside overlooking Sydney Harbour, the Rose Bay House by Studio Johnston embraces light, openness and fluidity. Designed as a generous family residence capable of hosting large gatherings while preserving moments of intimacy, the project carefully balances scale and warmth.
The steep west-facing site offered panoramic harbour views, yet required a thoughtful approach to bring natural light deep into the home. The architects responded with a courtyard typology: a central open-air space that draws sunlight through the different levels and creates a protected outdoor heart within the house.
On the western façade, the living areas extend seamlessly towards the terrace and pool, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior. Here, the Vitrocsa Turnable Corner system plays a defining role. By freeing the corner entirely, it allows the façade to open without visual interruption, framing uninterrupted views of the harbour and enhancing the sense of spatial continuity.
